September 25th, 70 degrees!
Posted on 25 September 2021 | Comments Off on September 25th, 70 degrees!
It’s the end of September, Moses Ranch is at 4,100′ elevation which makes us about 12 degrees cooler up here than the valley below — but, today it is 70 degrees!
We are not complaining, it is amazing. This has been such a wonderful summer, and we hope we slowly ease into fall and winter, and really get to enjoy these longer days before the snow starts to fly and darkness comes early.

We have about 4 to 5 months of snow up here a year, and we don’t take days like this for granted.
Today, we are taking a couple of horses out to go scout for deer, and get a little off-trail riding / training on them.

Went with a good friend of mine that I’ve known for a long time. There is an old saying “the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man” — this is true, and even better with good friends and family.

Dream (left) and Boomer. Perfect day. Tons of mule deer.

Ginger

If you remember Ginger, she was our Scottish Highlander. We butchered her a couple of weeks ago, and her entire purpose here on the ranch was to grow those horns. She will be honored with a beautiful memory through this mount as well as feeding several local families in our area.
They are almost done! They look absolutely amazing, but I think I need to whiten them just a little more, then they’ll be perfect.

This is Ginger, if you don’t recall what she looked like. She was such a sweetheart. Tough gal, she was the herd boss, ran the show and called all of the shots – even the bulls were scared of her.

Moving offices around… 3D printers

Moving offices around a little, and had to temporarily fill the home office with a few 3D printers!
We only run Raise3D and Prusa 3D printers – those are Raise3D E2s in the foreground and a handful of Prusa MINIs and MK3Ss in the background.

This is Sher Iza Boomer and InYourFlippinDreams, two of our reining horses. We took them out for an off-trail ride, open their minds a little and give them some out-of-the-arena experience.
Smart horses, did very well.

Popcorn and movies @ Moses Ranch!

Who doesn’t want to have their own movie theater!?
We’ve wanted to do this for so long, but like always — time was always the issue. We finally decided we weren’t going to let another summer pass without the theater, so we got it installed today.
20′ wide outdoor theater with sound system and of course, a movie theater popcorn machine.
It is fantastic! Come on over!

The 3D printing community is amazing!

What an amazing year!
About one year ago, I saw and touched my first 3D printer ever. I’ve been interested in the technology for years, and I felt like it was finally mature enough.
In one year, we’ve grown to 15 printers running full-time, with a stack of boxed printers waiting on the construction of a new ranch building for the print farm. We have a stock of roughly 2000 kg of filament on-hand, and we are burning through spools of filament faster than I could ever imagine.
We run a farm of Raise3D and Prusa printers, and they operate flawlessly, manufacturing like little robots – we ship the parts as fast as the printers can drop them in the bins.
The community has been absolutely wonderful, one of the most amazing groups of people I have ever had the pleasure to interact with.
I made a half-joke on twitter about wanting a t-shirt from Prusa, and before I knew it, boxes from all over the community showed up at the ranch filled with gifts for the family and the printers.
I can’t thank all of you enough, what a wonderful group of people, and I can’t wait to see what this next year brings.

Playing with Pixelmator on the Mac, with a picture of two of my Fords! I’m not very good with photo-editing, but this turned out all right!

Lilly’s first ride

This is Lilly, she was the first filly born here on Moses Ranch. She just turned 2, and she’s ready for training. Today was her first time with a saddle and rider. She gave me a little buck, but nothing big, she did great — soon she’ll head down to the valley for full-time reining training.

Today we moved Boomer and Dream back out to our trainers for the summer and fall. They are reining horses and are in full-time training with Tony at Kirschner Performance Horses in the Palisades.
Tony is an amazing trainer, and a wonderful, dear friend.
