3D is not always better! 2D Snow Leopard Dock.

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES

killall Dock

I’ve never really been sold on the 3D dock in Snow Leopard and gave it a good 3 or 4 month run… but in the end, ultimately decided to go back to the 2D style where I think the dock belongs.
